Wheel Arch Storage

So it’s been a while since I last worked on  my Defender, but no that Xmas is over I can start to invest in new parts. Next job on my list is to spray all the parts currently off the Defender, but before I can do this I needed to modify the wheel arch and install storage space.

The new storage area will be in the wheel arch on the passenger side, here:

So I removed the rubber mud flap.

Then cut out the front section and started folding the returns.

I then test fitted the new side panel.

Then on to the bottom section.

Which was then test fitted.

It was then time to cut in the lid. I wanted to be able to access the storage from inside the vehicle so decided to cut the lid into the top of the wheel arch. The same as 109s used to have.

Then the panels had sealant run along the edges and they were riveted into place.

Then more sealant was applied to the outside.

Finished!
